Really nice place. The Tawney Owl has just had a refit which looks very nice. The staff are great the only reason I've dropped a star off is although the Sunday lunch we had was good it was just to say lukewarm, Something that the kitchen staff should be aware of before sending your food out.
A lovely pub and restaurant. Service was a little slow but they were busy and recently opened after a big refit. Food was well presented and was very superbly cooked. When ordering the desert to share we were informed this couldn't be available due to certain elements of the dish were missing which was a little disappointing. Not sure what was missing. I ordered real ale with the meal which went flat quite quickly and I noticed the cut flowers on display were tired having seen better days. Today wasn't one of those days. Table service needed a little more attention. Was never asked if the meal was in order and it was difficult getting waiting on staff to keep an eye on our needs. Overall I was happy with the way the evening went. Probably teething issues with a new restaurant service. On the whole going by this experience we will be back. Well recommended.
We are regular visitors to the Tawny Owl, Darlington where we have always enjoyed excellent food and looked after by wonderful staff. We called in today to see how their recent alterations have gone, I must admit it has been very tastefully done not taken anything away from the warm atmosphere and wonderful food. Debbie and Paul were the servers today and it was so good to see staff who enjoy their work place which is also good for custom.Margaret & Jimmy
The ambiance and surroundings were very nice. The food (Lamb Shank) was very good. BUT my friend and I were asked over and over again various questions which made us feel as though we were overstaying our welcome... We actually went and sat in my car to finish our conversation it was so uncomfortable... I won't be back !!!
Nice cosy atmosphere and good food. Table by the open fire was lovely. Have booked to visit again. Worth downloading the app for offers.
