Lots of things went wrong with this move. But things go wrong with EVERY move. Anyone reading this should accept that and remember it. Like a visit to the dental chair, it only lasts a short time, The guys (only two - bless them) were cheerful enough but clearly out-gunned by the height and weight of the relatively few items needing moving. We had taken all of the small stuff as our responsibility, ferrying boxes and boxes, and still more boxes, over many weeks and under our own steam. Regrettably for them they had not been informed of what waited for them at the other end - a modern 3 floor town-house with narrow twisting stairs. They had no trolley, no power tools, indeed not even the right manual tools for the job. There appeared to be little investment in THEM.Every item moved had its soundtrack - often noises of pain and exertion - so grave that I myself, with half their experience and strength, found myself assisting in moving all that I could. Notwithstanding, there was damage to paintwork, a ripped vinyl floor where the washing machine was to go and a general reluctance to dismantle anything in preference to wrangling everything with brute force, wherever possible, regardless of the damage caused. Finally, unable to bear their discomfort any longer, and in fear for the fabric of the new house, for some things I relented. As a result the ground floor is now crammed with items destined for the upper floors: sofa bed; bed head; office shelves; drawers - all of which I will eventually need to have someone else help me to move, or I will have to pay another firm.Having written all of the above, and bearing in mind our general philosophy - all moving is disastrous - we parted on good terms and I think gave them an acceptable tip, hopefully adding a couple of pounds an hour onto their hourly rate. And all of this would have been just fine, part of life's rich tapestry and no review would have ever escaped my finger ends. They did work hard. The job was not sufficiently staffed. Head office had not properly informed them. And, anyway, who among us wants to move people's stuff 6 days (yes 6 days!) a week?BUT, today, having been without Internet or 'phone coverage for 2 days (due of course to the move) I received a series of phone calls, each more insistent in their message than the previous. When I ultimately spoke to the woman in the office of Watson's her manner was so unpleasant, demanding instant payment of the balance (60%), disinterested in the circumstances of my silence or indeed in how the move had gone. She was unhappy that I did not wish to pay the balance there and then, or to share my card/bank details. She remained volubly unhappy at my decision to pay by BACs transfer on the grounds that payment was due on the day on the move. She would not accept that I was at work and unable at that precise moment of her call to stop everything and comply with her wishes. The experience was so unsettling and disagreeable that I rang off. Of course payment was duly transferred before 5pm as per the arrangement. So, back to the poor understaffed team on the day, dealing with one unexpected event after another. With an office team like this, perhaps they themselves undervalued and also hard-pressed, Watson's difficulties are less surprising.
Great set of lads doing 2 moves for us in and out of a storage unit. But three items of furniture damaged in the process. Three tears underneath the settee and two pieces of wooden furniture. When I found the damage I rang and spoke to a lady about what had happened, but because we hadn't taken out extra insurance, we were not covered. I was really disappointed, I had hoped they would have taken more care of my furniture. Because of what happened to us, I could not recommend them.
Brilliant team on both days of our move, would highly recommend.
Excellent team of lads that moved is out of our house and into our new one on Ingleby Barwick. Very professional company from start to finish. Very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend Watson's for your removal needs. 5** service from start to finish.
Highly recommended, a friendly & professional service from start to finish. The guys on the day were so helpful. Thank you for making it so easy.
